There’s enough barriers to getting your workout on to make HAIR WOES one of them! AMIRIGHT? I was sick of having to throw my hair up in a ponytail after every single workout or, even worse IMO – ruin a perfectly styled hairdo in a 30 min workout. It became my mission to figure out the best way to manage my post-workout hair without washing it! I have some pretty good hacks up my sleeve that are too good to not share with you!
post-workout hair starts pre-workout
One of the best tips is to try and remember to spritz your roots with a dry shampoo BEFORE your workout, then work it in with your fingers to really activate it. This helps in two ways.
First, it’s made to work on dry hair – not sweaty/wet hair. Spraying before the workout gives it a chance to form a barrier for your strands so the sweat doesn’t cling to your hair.
Second, the combo of the dry shampoo and your natural salts from the work out can be an awesome texture + volume boost.
Another must-do pre-workout is to put your hair up. This may seem like a no-brainer but try not to let your ends touch your neck because they will soak up that sweat.
here’s the best way to style your hair to avoid a weird post-workout-hair-crease
⋙ Section out the front middle portion of your hair – I grab about the width of what bangs would be and to the depth of my ears – and start twisting it back until you can gather a high ponytail.
⋙ Make a simple half-loop bun, leaving out at least 3-4″ of your ends. This is super important to avoid weird creases at the ends where your hair is most fragile.
⋙ use a big scrunchie, coil tie, or one of those extra-wide bands to prevent major creasing.
Another hair style ideas are to pull your hair into a loose pony tail and either braid or 2-strand twist it. If your hair still reaches your neck, loop it into a half-bun. The key to all of these styles is to not pull your hair back too tightly.
for those extra sweaty workouts
At this point, that may be all you need to do to manage your post-workout hair! But for those next-level workouts, here are a few extra tips.
⋙ Blast your roots with your blow dryer on the COOL setting. You’re already hot and your goal is to cool your scalp, not make it worse ha!
⋙ While your hair is still up in a high bun, massage your scalp with wet fingers in the shower. Follow with a quick blast of your blow dryer. This is especially helpful to do when you’re already kinda stretching it with the hair wash…don’t act like you’ve never been there haha.
For a finishing touch, give another spritz with your dry shampoo and then use a shine serum or product to smooth your ends.
