An outfit with a touch of boho-chic might be my all-time favorite aesthetic. It truly never goes out of style and is such a fun way to add some interest to your everyday basics. The best part is mixing in this boho style can work for anyone! Today I’m sharing my four favorite ways to add a touch of boho-chic to your look. Go all-in by layering all the options, or test the waters with one of these options at a time!
boho style statement rings
I recently got a ring from Moore Hill Jewelry Co and instantly fell in love with the unique vintage boho style. To give you guys a little background, the designer is 18 years old and crafts high-quality rings from recycled materials. I don’t know about you but at 18 I did not have designer, ceo, and artist on my radar! The ring I have is silver with a gorgeous light patina – in love!! Also, Hailey, the artist, donates a portion of every sale to the “feeding the children everywhere” charity.
I have been so excited to share this ring with you because it is probably the easiest way to add some interest to your outfits while supporting a small business that is sustainable and eco-friendly from the ground up. You can tell why I’m so excited about this biz!! If you haven’t checked her out yet, it’s a must-do (here’s a link to her IG page 😍).
the layered look
One of my favorite things about the boho style is layering minimalist jewelry like necklaces and bracelets. To be honest, I used to go to amazon or forever 21 and buy a few pieces that end up fading (like MAAAJOR fading) or breaking after a few wears. After doing this way too many times I added up all the money I wasted. It was shocking! Ugh if only I slowly invested in a few pieces at a time, I would have a much nicer collection of items to layer AND have extra $$$ in my pocket. Ahhh I hate thinking about that, but felt it was important to share to hopefully spare you guys!! If you do buy cheaper items, do it as an occasional accent or maybe to try a style before you make an investment.
One of my go-to’s for high-quality minimalist designs is Mason Noelle. She has the most beautiful necklaces and bracelets just begging to be layered. A fav of mine is the gold-filled bead bracelets. It compliments anything I wear, is so easy to layer with, and is such amazing quality (at super reasonable prices!). I have the Shine On mommy + me design so Shiloh babe and I have matching bracelets. Melts me!! As a testament to the quality, I’ve had mine for months, never take it off (through showers, runs, workouts, etc…) and it looks as new as day one. This is another small shop I definitely recommend you check out! (Also on IG here!)
boho style hats
Top the most basic outfit with a wide brim or fedora hat and it’s a total level-up! If picking out a hat for your face shape is intimidating for you be sure to check out this post – I did a breakdown of the best style hat by face shape! I did a ton of research before writing it and found it so helpful for myself too.
Currently loving a medium to wide brimmed hat in a lighter color. Nothing beats the look of a true wool hat (as opposed to a polyester or wool-look-alike material). Don’t be afraid to wear it even into the warmer days, or transition to a straw hat in similar style.
fabric details
Flowy and gauzy fabrics are the essence of a boho-look. I love to pair denim shorts or lightly distressed jeans with a flowy top to give an easy laid-back vibe. Florals and embellished tops can definitely add to that boho look but I find the simple fabrics and solid colors so much more versatile. It just goes to show there is so much opportunity for creative individual style within one type of look!
I snagged this boho style dress and button-up white shirt, both made from this crazy comfy gauzy fabric, and I could not be happier with this purchase (also both under $30!!). Sizing tip: I ended up sizing up one in the button-up for a looser fit and recommend doing the same for the dress if you have longer arms or a larger chest.
Also loving the look of lightweight t-shirt maxi dresses like this one from amazon. I have my eye on this neutral tie-dye print. I would pair it with a denim jacket and neutral booties during the spring and either slides or strappy sandals during the summer. Layer on a few of these other ideas above for more of that boho vibe!
