By the time Spring comes around, I am so ready to ditch those heavy coats in favor of lighter cuter options. The unpredictable weather and cool am/pm means you have to be ready for anything. Instead of burying a cute spring outfit under a drab coat, try one of these options instead. I’m calling this the best Spring jackets list because that is exactly what it is.
I have gotten loads of use out of these items, and some I have owned for years. They are versatile and evergreen closet staples.
Sharing loads of styling ideas for each jacket, plus more ideas on this reel I recently posted.
When you scroll through the post below you will find one major key…
VERSATILITY IS KEY on this list of the best spring jackets
The Denim Jacket
I’m not sure there was ever a time a denim jacket wasn’t in style. And trust me – this is a closet item that isn’t going anywhere any time soon! That’s why it’s top on the list of the best spring jackets.
The oversized jacket look is trending for spring right now, but the classic cut is still in! I like the fit to be loose enough to layer a sweater underneath, but not so loose that it looks sloppy with a dress – so semi oversized would be ideal in my opinion.
If you are hunting for the most versatile option, stick with a lighter wash and minimal to no distressing.
A few styling ideas:
- Layer over a hoodie and sweats or bike shorts for an athleisure look
- Wear with a flowy dress
- Tie around the waist over a T-shirt dress
- Denim on denim outfit
- Keep it cool-girl chic with black jeans and a white T
The Trench Coat
The trench coat just might be the epitome of spring!! It’s another one of the best spring jackets because year after year it is in style.
There are a few things to keep in mind as you shop for one. The material ranges from cotton to that really shiny water-repellent fabric. While that might be ideal for a torrential downpour, it kinda looks out of place on a typical spring day IMO.
When it comes to length, the ones that hit the lower thigh to just below the knee are really flattering on almost every body type and height. In contrast, the super long ones can swallow a petite frame, and the ones that hit the upper hip will really accentuate the hips if tied at the waist because of how it flares out.
Also, the first trench coat I bought had no lining and I truly felt it made a difference in how it lay over my outfits (not in a good way).
I recently purchased this option and am very happy with the fit and style! Check out some of the other options below.
Like the other spring jackets here, it’s such a versatile piece to own and can go with pretty much anything from dressy to casual. Here are a few ideas:
- Keep it classic with light wash denim, a white T-shirt, and sneakers
- The perfect topper for a workwear look
- Layer over matching sweats set and sneakers for that cool-girl vibe
- Wear it with an all-white outfit and nude heels for an almost monochromatic look
- Wear it over shorts and a white button-down with sleeves semi rolled and pushed up
See some of these ideas in motion in this reel!
The Blazer (because this year-round staple is ALSO one of the best spring jackets!!)
I LOVE a good blazer. It adds interest to pretty much any outfit. You can never go wrong with a black blazer, but in springtime I especially love a cream, tan, and beige blazer. Patterns are also a fun way to add outfit interest.
Like with denim jackets, the oversized blazer is very on-trend right now, but by no means the only option. Most importantly, pick a style that you feel comfortable in because THAT is how you will get the most wear.
Here are a few ways I love to style a blazer:
- Wear it with jeans, a T-shirt, and heeled sandals for a smart casual/girls’ night/happy hour look
- Top linen or denim shorts and a tucked-in T-shirt and heels or sneakers
- Wear it over a sweater or sweatshirt when it’s extra chilly – such a cool-girl vibe
- Pair it with a white or graphic T-shirt, light wash jeans, and white sneakers for an everyday casual look
- Use it to add structure to a flowy spring dress
The Utility Jacket
The utility jacket is such a great piece for spring.
First of all the tan and olive green colors you usually see this style in are so flattering against so many skin tones.
Second, this style is so different from the others with the buttons, collar, toggles, etc – it adds interest outfit interest.
Third, a lot of them are slightly weatherproof making them perfect for spring.
Out of all the styles in this list of the best spring jackets, this style might be the most restrictive. Don’t let that hold you back from trying it out!! Here are a few fun ways to work it into your closet:
- Wear it over a midi length ribbed knit or other fitted dress paired with sneakers
- Pairs really well with light wash blue, grey, and distressed denim
- Wear it with a shorter t-shirt style dress and sneakers or booties
- Counter the utility look with a floral print shorter dress
- Make it a workwear piece worn over a white button-down and pants or leggings
The Oversized Quilted Jacket
I felt like this is a more recently trending item, but it’s going to stick around for a while!
As far as the oversized jackets trend goes, this is probably the easiest style to wear. And while it’s a great jacket to wear in fall and early winter, I have been wearing mine on repeat this spring.
The quilted style is a great way to spice up a basic outfit, and the oversized fit makes it perfect for all the layers on a chilly day.
Here are a few ways to style this jacket:
- Wear it with straight leg denim and a crochet sweater for a laid-back look
- Top a ribbed/fitted dress for the contrast of fits
- Pairs really well with super casual looks like graphic T-shirts and distressed denim
- Add the layer to denim cut-off shorts and sneakers
- Looks great over a polished monochromatic look (as in all white/neutral/black)
I am always curious to see what are the ride-or-die closet faves of my friends so leave a comment here or in my DM’s to let me know! And THANK YOU for visiting, reading, sharing & pinning. It helps my little biz more than you know!!
xx, rae
